Ship Date / Released to Ship?

When you print the Pack slip, there is a check box for if it shipped or
not.
We uncheck the box until it actually ships.

We also do this. We also have a user defined checkbox 'ready to ship' on
the sales order entry screen. This allows Sales to hold back the order
if the customer is not ready for delivery. We linked it to our bespoke
picking list so that the list won't print the items until 'ready to
ship' is ticked. Then they print and pick the order. Shipped is only
ticked once the order has left the premises. This is a search option
(status) on shipment entry so it is easy to check what has been packed
but not sent.

kind regards

Some times I get a request from a customer asking when something
shipped. I recently learned that I can find this information in the
ShipHead.ShipDate field.

Recently I had a situation where we created the packing list with the
date we thought the customer's truck was going to pick up the
item...but then the item sat on our dock for a week.

Then the customer asked where the shipment was at. If I look in our
system, it shows the item as shipped. I knew the item han't left our
dock...but if somwone else took the call, the wrong information would
have been passed along to our customer.

What do others do in this scenario?

Thanks

Just because something is entered in a PackID as a Line (and its proposed ship date has passed) does not mean it is shipped. You can only conclude that it is ready for a pending shipment.

There are status fields in ShipHead that indicates if the PackID is Open or Closed, Shipped or pending Shipment, and Shipped/Invoiced or shipped/not-invoiced).

The (proposed) ship date should not be considered an indicator of whether the shipment actually occured.

You should be able to see all of this info in Shipment Tracker and Order Tracker.
