Raw Material Cost in Job Production

How are you controlling where to backflush from & where the demand link is established to during job creation? (Resource backflush whse bin to the OP the mtl is linked to?, no resource backflush bin defined so backflushing from parts priamry whse bin?)

I've seen some funky behavior if the demand link (based on parts prim whse/bin) is not where the linked OP primary scheduled resource group defines to backflush from (although never 'lost costs').

What version are you on?

on 8.03.409a, that is the most revealing job cost report I've found.
Are you purchasing your materials direct to each job or purchasing to stock and then issuing to stock?
If PO is zero priced, that is what will transfer into job (and I don't believe a valid posted invoice price will update WIP as it updates inventory).

I'm out of ideas without more detail (version, cost method, etc.,).

It has nothing to do with average costing…..just so you know…

I came from a place that averaged costed and our costs flowed nicely. It is
something in her set up.

I don’t believe that Average costing will work if your raw materials are
backflushed. Try issuing them prior to entering the completed quantity to
see if that works.

We are using average cost. All materials are still set up to backflush.

The material is dropping from inventory but the cost of material isn't
attaching to the pieces on the job. According to Epicor, it costs nothing
to produce these pieces.

What type of costing are you using? Are you backflushing or issuing? I
believe Kanban auto backflushes raw materials (we do not use Kanban) but
each raw material part needs to be set up as a backflush on the jobs without
Kanban or you need to issue materials on a job to job basis.

Thanks Josh

We're graduating from Kanban to Job entry.

Wondering when does raw material attach a cost to the job? I produced 450
pieces but the cost to produce is showing $0.00 in Production Detail Report
and in Part Trans History.

The job is depleting inventory on the material, this material has a cost
attached to it.

Hi Jaqueline,

The other 100 pieces will sit in WIP until you process them through the
material queue, a “Job Receipt to Inventory”, or ship them on a “Make
Direct” release of an order that is linked to the job.

In Epicor 905.606A MES module>Production>Report qty, I checked “request
move” for qty of 450 pieces and didn’t check the "request Move" for 100
pieces.

Only the 450 pieces moved to the Material Queue Manager list, I then
processed and put into inventory. Where are the other 100? It’s not in
inventory.

The only place I can see how many pieces were produced is the job tracker.
The Job Entry only shows the 450 received.

thanks in advance

Hi group ~ Happy Friday :-)
We haven't used Bartender before and are planning to make a purchase.  Do you have to have a Zebra or special barcode printer, or can/will
it print to any printer?  I don't want to get a version with more printer licenses than I need, if it only works on specific barcode printers.

Thanks,
Julie Lehmann
Mercury Minnesota Inc.

I’ve used it with Zebra and Intermec printers with no issues.

We are using Intermec PM4i and it works great.

In Epicor 905.606A MES module>Production>Report qty, I checked “request move” for qty of 450 pieces and didn’t check the "request Move" for 100 pieces.
Only the 450 pieces moved to the Material Queue Manager list, I then processed and put into inventory.  Where are the other 100?  It’s not in inventory.
The only place I can see how many pieces were produced is the job tracker.  The Job Entry only shows the 450 received.
thanks in advance

Thank you Adam & Vic ~ that's good to know, it sounds like it's pretty flexible.  I'm also wondering if I could just print to a laser printer or even inkjet printer?
We have an couple applications now that print barcoded tags to a deskjet printer, and I'm trying to determine if I could use bartender for those applications
instead of the old label software we are using.

Thanks again!
Julie

We are using Intermec PM4i and it works great.

Thanks,

Julie,

You should be able to print to anywhere from bartender.

Thanks guys!!  That's what I needed to know - basically that it'll print to any type of printer.

I’ve used Bartender to print laser printers in the past without issue.

The Job Entry only shows the 450 received.

thanks in advance

jacqueline

Thanks Josh

We're graduating from Kanban to Job entry.

Wondering when does raw material attach a cost to the job?  I produced 450 pieces but the cost to produce is showing $0.00 in Production Detail Report and in Part Trans History.
The job is depleting inventory on the material, this material has a cost attached to it.

The Job Entry only shows the 450 received.

thanks in advance

jacqueline

We are using average cost.  All materials are still set up to backflush.
The material is dropping from inventory but the cost of material isn't attaching to the pieces on the job.  According to Epicor, it costs nothing to produce these pieces.

Costs don’t hit UNTIL backflush happens.

Backflush happens depending on how you set up the job.  One key factor is related operations.

Are the parts related to an operation?  If not, costs wont hit.

We are using average cost.  All materials are still set up to backflush.

The material is dropping from inventory but the cost of material isn't attaching to the pieces on the job.  According to Epicor, it costs nothing to produce these pieces.

What type of costing are you using? Are you backflushing or issuing? I
believe Kanban auto backflushes raw materials (we do not use Kanban) but
each raw material part needs to be set up as a backflush on the jobs without
Kanban or you need to issue materials on a job to job basis.

I don’t believe that Average costing will work if your raw materials are
backflushed. Try issuing them prior to entering the completed quantity to
see if that works.

The Job Entry only shows the 450 received.

thanks in advance

job estimated costs (material/labor) are established at time of job detial generation (for material grabbing the then current cost of your raw material based on its costing method - so if a new item with no cost establlished, no estimate).

actuals occur as transactions occur. Some of the trackers are funky (not always showing the right cost buckets by default). Try a narrow parttran query on the specific job/material bringing back all columns and see if it is there.

You can also use job completion to temporarily complete a job with show production detial checked (all transactions) & that may reveal whether you really are not having valid material cost go into WIP. (Uncheck complete if job still in process afterwards.)
on 8.03.409a, that is the most revealing job cost report I've found.
