Part.PartNum field special characters

I’m pretty sure I’ll have to leave that one.

Our part numbers have spaces, ", and / in them it’s awesome.

In before… “All numeric characters, with leading zeros”

(Like the Tag #'s on a Physical Inventory :imp: )

Found this one today. Do not put a tilde in you part descriptions. Breaks Mtl tag printing in MES for the job (at least on 10.2.200.7). Not sure of any other areas affected.

@timshuwy - I dug out your old product configurator part #s to avoid just the other day. Told them it’s okay to use hypen - but if they use any of the other characters on the list do it at their own risk… or detriment!

That’s awesome haha!

I will always take an opportunity to troll for votes on this:

Block leading spaces as IDs (PKs)

Still gauging interest.

For sure… can’t believe most fields are even allowed to do that, like UPC code.

But then I wouldn’t have things like this to find in my spare time.

Don’t get me monologuing.

Thanks for the callout… but the “real” document that has my thoughts on part numbering standards was posted here with discussions (Part Numbering Standards 2018 edition). It calls out many various reasons why you should and should not do things with part numbers.
BUT HERE is the more updated 2021 version of the same document. Note that the document not only gives recomendations on part numbers, but on part descriptions as well.
