[OT] Win2K - Adding a local connection

I checked too and no such luck. Some other options are 1) have the user manually make changes to the network configuration (yeah right); 2) buy a USB to Ethernet adapter for the notebook and configure it for the cable modem (this will give you another local connection in your network settings); 3) buy a router for the cable modem.

Good luck,
Butch

It's Win2K but I checked anyway and it does not have this feature.

If the laptop is running XP, go into the properties for the TCP/IP
protocol. There is a tab called alternate configuration which looks
like it should work for your application. Set the main protocol for
DHCP and your static address for the alternate configuration.

A user has a new laptop and would like a differnt local area connection
in the network settings to be able to use when at home (on his Cable
modem). There he needs automatic IP assignment but here in the office
it is static. He could change the one local connection to automatic but
then has to re-enter the local IP address afterward. I thought making a
new connection and enable/disabling between them would be easier for
him. Also much handier for use in hotels.

But I can't figure out how to make a new one. The Make Connection
wizard seems totally setup for modem dial-up and when I go through the
dial-up internet route and then select local LAN it never adds the
connection to the list. Is there someplace else I should be looking?
Do I need to be looged on "local only" to add a connection?

Thanks,
