[OT] Strange Networking Issues

The one PC with the "receive" issue I am almost certain is the NIC. When I check the "Status" foe the local area connection it shows activity on the "Transmit" side and not the "Receive" side. I can also not Ping that PC from elsewhere on the network. At themoment putting a new NIC in it may be the easiest way to diagnose it as a hardware issue.
Thanks,
-Todd C.

Todd,

Do you use Layer 3 Switches. It is possible that your switch has a bad
routing table in it and data is being routed to the wrong port on the
switch. Though most switches dynamically adjust to this, unless someone
create a static entry.

But if a PC can Ping and you are getting a response than the data is being
routed properly through your network.

When you say a PC can send data out but does not get it back, what do you
mean exactly.

Scott

Thanks but that did not help. On either machine. I think I am much closer
on the one that at least can ping the servers. I am next going to put a new
NIC in the other one and disable the onboard NIC.

Under Services, disable Automatic Updates and set Background
Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to manual and then reboot.

If the problem goes away, let me know and I'll send you a procedure to
fix the issue.

Subject: [Vantage] [OT] Strange Networking Issues

I have a really strange networking issue (actually a couple) that is
driving me nuts. I've been struggling with it for a couple days now.
User's PC can transmit on network but can not receive. Does not seem to
be a hardware issue but I have reinstalled driver for Ethernet (on
motherboard type) and verified all the IP settings etc.... I've also
removed and reinstalled the computer in AD on the server. Strange thing
is that it stopped working at the same time as another PC started having
network issues so I was ruling out hardware failure. Now I am wondering
about this.

Anyone ever seen a reason for being able to send packets but not receive
packets without it being a hardware?

The other PC with a problem can talk on network and ping the servers
etc... - even access web. But it can not access anything on our network.
It is like it is not being authenticated or trusted. I can see other
computers in the domain...just can't access them. I have also deleted
and re-added this computer in AD. Suggestions on this would be
appreciated too.

Thanks,
Todd Caughey
