[OT] Internet Performance

We are a tad too dependent on it. Our email was out for a day. People were
bleeding internally over that.

Or as Rob Rosenberger says on his VMYTHS.com site, let's just turn OFF the
internet for awhile and go home.

According to tech tv news, (as of last night) 280,000 internet servers
have
been infected by the CODE RED 2 virus no propogating, they also said that
480,000 servers were hit by the original CODE RED. Our satellite system
signal is degraded by about 40% (two-way home and work are the same) and
throughput is down from 600-800 kbs to about 50 kbs. I would say that
Code
Red is having an impact. And if the "PROGRAMERS" are caught they'll
probably get community service and a high paying job in Internet Security.
Wouldn't you just love to have a "Get Even" on them.

I have been trying all day to connect to the CrystalDecisions web site to
download the patches for 8.5 that fix the problems with PO forms. Their
site and a scattering of others can not be accessed while other sites are no
problem. In between are a few which are extremely slow but eventually load.
I have been having the same problem at home for the past 3-4 days and also
noticed there a HUGE amount of activity on my cable modem and on the WAN
side of the firewall but none on the LAN side. I am beginning to wonder if
this is Code Red or Code Red II related and affecting sites behind Cisco
routers or from unfixed IIS servers. Or maybe both the ISP here at work and
the one at home that are having problems. Is anyone else having problems
with some web sites and in particular www.crystaldecisions.com

I think it is the RED Worm

I got over 300 hits on my cable modem firewall at home yesterday (usually
get 2 or 3 per day).

I did a trace route to one of the many different IP's that were poking at my
system and it was a normal looking Website in New York.

My guess is that this site has been infected and is now looking for others
to infect. This is what is creating all the network traffic and blocking
access to some sites.

My digital 2 cents worth.

Crystaldecisions is a slow load if at all. I've seen some slow down other
places too.

I vote with Jerry.
You will find some sites very slow, other unreachable. Do you have all your
IIS servers patched?
