[OT] D-Link Wireless Router Setup

I had to update the firmware in my LinkSys router before I could get mine at
home to work. You might check that out.

Jim Moore
On advice of several people here I purchased a D-Link Wireless card for a laptop and a D-Link wireless router to connect to. Now I'm having a few questions how to set it up.

Basically all the instructions assume I am connecting it to a cable modem at home to share an internet connection. So I' left wondering what I am to do to connect to our LAN.

1st question - If I connect the LAN to the WAN port doe I need to have a cross over ethernet cable?
2nd - We use static IP addresses so I assume I can assign any free address to the router as the WAN IP Address (such as 192.168.0.53), right?
3rd - The WAN Gateway address would be ....? I use our firewall (192.168.168.1) as gateway for all other PCs.
4th - Just use the regular DNS server settings as for all other PCs?

On the laptop side the wireless card is blinking and seems to be OK. If I check the status it reports that it sees the wireless router (shows right MAC) and has very strong signal (should they are 3' apart). So I am pretty sure the card is talking to the router.

Any other hints on the settings to get this talking? I really want to learn as much as I can before I haul the laptop and wireless card to Perspectives next month.

Thanks,

I don't have mine set up like you do so I can't answer most of your
questions. Take the following with a grain of salt since I'm just telling
you what I would try first with no guarantee that anything I suggest is
correct. How that for a disclaimer? I'm starting to sound like a certain
software company.

1: use a standard Ethernet cable.

2: I agree

3 & 4: I don't know, sounds good to me

The wireless card does blink. Looks funny I agree, but that is normal. Let
me know what works if you could. I may go wireless here in the office next
year. My D-Link stuff is at home. I will look around and see if I can find
any real answers for you.
