OFF TOPIC-Input on EarthLink/Dial-up

I had a BAAADDD Earthlink experience. It was not so much quality of service,
but a problem when I switched to DSL and how my email was forwarded (or not
forwarded as the case was). Like the Ameritech story, it's complicated and
involves a lot of profanity.

I even set up an address for people wanting the whole story:

Rick,

We had a local ISP Turbont.net that we used. They were sold to LOA (Log On
America) about 2 years ago. About a year ago, I switched to T1 service for
phone service and internet. Last month LOA sold the biggest portion of
their dial-up accounts to Earthlink.
The point of this is several of the Managers and office staff use me as
their tech support (go figure) and have gone through the changes from one
ISP to the next along this line. The change to Earthlink was the most
painful because they sent a form letter asking the users to install their
software that dials the internet for them. This requires a password every
time and again to get mail...just unhandy. A call to techsupport and a
little understanding was reached about my level of competence (sometimes
very difficult to get across over the phone). We discussed the options and
quickly determined that a standard dialup networking connection was the way
to go. A couple of minutes later I had the right numbers for DNS and such
so I could set them all up.
After that initial discomfort, Over the last month and change, I have not
had a single complaint from anyone using their service (somewhat unusual).

Sorry for the novel, but I never did find Readers Digest of much use. :)

Does anyone still use dial-up? If so, have you had experience with
EarthLink?

I'm getting tired of the crappy service from my ISP, and am looking for
input.

Rick,

I used earthlink for years and was very happy after I got fed up with
American Off Line. Of course now I am a cable modem slob and could never go
back. I would recommend them for dial up service if you have a local phone
number available.

Rick,

I use AT&T dial-up for home(heehee!inside joke) and it has been very reliable. I believe it's $21.95 unlimited for the 1 account. I average about 46mbps when it connects and it stays around that speed while I'm connected.

We use Earthlink for our mobile connections, they have numbers in most areas
including Canada and they allow multi connections at the same time , unlike
AOL

Earthlink has been very reliable and is a partner with Direcway satellite
service. (a cost effective option if you don't have access to cheap cable
service)
