I encountered major system errors on my workstation and had to reinstall the
operating system yesterday. I was able to map all network drives, can see
Vantage with all of its folders and icons, but it will not let me
successfully do a client install on my computer. It appears to do it fine,
however when I double click the Vantage icon to open, it hangs up and never
gives me the sign on screen. Here are the error messages I am receiving (in
the order that they are listed). These errors reappear about every 30
seconds and will not go away until I run the Task Manager and end Progress.
If anyone could provide any suggestions in fixing this I would appreciate it
greatly. We are on version 5.2. Thanks in advance for any advice.

First error: Error occurred while creating CONTROL-FRAME: Spliter1.
Invalid class string. Error code 0x800401f3. (5898)

Second error: Unable to realize CONTROL-FRAME widget. (4025)

Third error: Unknown error code 1 for attribute NAME on the CONTROL-FRAME
widget. (4104)

Fourth error: Unable to set attribute NAME in widget of type CONTROL-FRAME.

This is not for the faint of heart. This requires a registery edit to
remove your previuos Vantage.
Start-->Run , type regedit
Press Control-F for find, type in progress and hit enter

This is the fun part view the high lighted key on the right. If it has a
rederence to your old Vantage delete the key. Don't delete unless you are
sure. Many Microsoft programs have progress bars in them. Error on the sidew
of CAUTION. Press F3 for next occurance. I'm got it down to about twenty
minutes to clean the registry.

I then reboot and reinstall Vantage and it will run fine.

Janis -

Since you reinstalled the operating system, your registry may not need to be
updated.
Did you install XP or Win2000? If you installed the OS as the administrator
did you
then log in as regular user to install the Vantage client? You need to have
sufficient
rights as a user to update the registry during the Vantage Client install.

A quick fix: Try logging onto the workstation as the administrator and
rerun the
Vantage client setup. If you still get these errors, as the administrator,
try running
the
<Vantage Drive>\Epicor\<PROGRESS>\netsetup\setup.exe
This will install the progress components that you seem to be missing.
These are
installed as part of the Vantage Client if you choose the Progress Network
Setup
check box during the install. Either way this will install them for you
directly.

If you have any questions or more troubles, just email or call: 630 675
9102.

HTH,
Calvin Dekker
