Hi:
Looking for someone who has tried or better yet, is successfully using this function. After just a couple minutes of looking at the set up and trying a quick test run, there are some parameters we consider before completing or closing jobs that are not included in the set up. i.e. is the last operation complete? (necessary to calculate profitability) Is shipping complete? Or better stated, does the Shipped and/or Received quantity match the production quantity? (can't ship/receive from a closed job). As a minimum, seems to me those items should somehow be included in the closing parameters set up.
Any one have any luck with this?
Thanks

Stan

If it is make direct (MFG-CUS) then it does not become a candidate until it is shipped. Is that the case or is this MFG-STK?

If it MFG-CUS, it will become a candidate when the last operation is complete. It does not have to be shipped.

Same with MFG-STK. It does not have to be received into stock.

We just went thru this in the past two months and the process is not very complicated. We had to play with the percentages to get our normal jobs to go thru, so we could focus on issues.
When a qty is completed on the final operation it can be a candidate, but won't complete if the items are not shipped or a mfg. recpt to inventory is done. This along with active labor transactions are tier one issues. I think they show on the completion dashboard to alert to those issues.

I made a simpler version of the job completion log dashboard to show all of the issues for all jobs rather than having to click the job and then the individual issues tab below.

Material and labor cost and quantities are the second tier of issues and you won't see those until wip and active labor issues are cleared and the auto completion process is run again.

I have the auto closing running at 8 PM and the auto complete at 9PM, so if a job is clean it will be closed in two days.

You can set different completion and closing parameters by part class.

If you have questions or I got something wrong, let me know.

Thanks for the response! Greg, from what you've said, it sounds like I
might be able to make this work! Got test it a bit more though!

We just went thru this in the past two months and the process is not very
complicated. We had to play with the percentages to get our normal jobs to
go thru, so we could focus on issues.
When a qty is completed on the final operation it can be a candidate, but
won't complete if the items are not shipped or a mfg. recpt to inventory is
done. This along with active labor transactions are tier one issues. I think
they show on the completion dashboard to alert to those issues.

I made a simpler version of the job completion log dashboard to show all of
the issues for all jobs rather than having to click the job and then the
individual issues tab below.

Material and labor cost and quantities are the second tier of issues and you
won't see those until wip and active labor issues are cleared and the auto
completion process is run again.

I have the auto closing running at 8 PM and the auto complete at 9PM, so if
a job is clean it will be closed in two days.

You can set different completion and closing parameters by part class.

If you have questions or I got something wrong, let me know.

Hi:
Looking for someone who has tried or better yet, is successfully using
this function. After just a couple minutes of looking at the set up and
trying a quick test run, there are some parameters we consider before
completing or closing jobs that are not included in the set up. i.e. is
the last operation complete? (necessary to calculate profitability) Is
shipping complete? Or better stated, does the Shipped and/or Received
quantity match the production quantity? (can't ship/receive from a closed
job). As a minimum, seems to me those items should somehow be included in
the closing parameters set up.
Any one have any luck with this?
Thanks

I'd like to add some fuel to the fire while it seems so many are into this topic. Per Epicor job's should be completed then closed to allow all final transactions (for us PO -A/P payments) to be made. If the job is closed prior, the costs will NOT hit the job unless you do a manual job adjustment. Has anyone found a way to use auto-closing in this scenerio and if so will you share?

We wrote our own closing routine passing data to the business object. We feed it via a text file. This way we can use a BAQ or report export to a text file to develop our own terms of what initiates a job closing. I wish Epicor had done it this way only made it a lot faster. The BO method is slow.

Are you buying material direct to the job? I have not seen this behavior, but we buy material to stock and then issue to the job.

We have materials review the job completion exceptions and issue any material that they missed before we complete the job.

When the job is closed and the capture wip/cos process is run, then you must make adjustments. if the capture has not been run, then we reopen and sometimes even uncomplete the job to correct issues.

I can't see how payments to vendors would play into this.

We have a problem with the PO cost not hitting the correctly and it more of
a timing issue.

This happens on our SubContract operations when the purchase order price is
incorrect or the job has been received to stock before the PO receipt at the
subcontract operation is done.

Since our jobs do not stay in WIP a long time, we have been doing the cost
adjustment to the part instead of the job.

We are working on a BPM to prevent this from happening.

Are you buying material direct to the job? I have not seen this behavior,
but we buy material to stock and then issue to the job.

We have materials review the job completion exceptions and issue any
material that they missed before we complete the job.

When the job is closed and the capture wip/cos process is run, then you must
make adjustments. if the capture has not been run, then we reopen and
sometimes even uncomplete the job to correct issues.

I can't see how payments to vendors would play into this.
