5.1 client insist on plant floor user install

From the 5.0 / progress install guide, p26

If you plan to run both Vantage 4.00 and eManufacturing 5.00 from this
workstation and want to avoid having a Vantage 4.00 icon display the
eManufacturing 5.00 splash screen, modify the Vantage 4.xx shortcut
properties as follows:
* Old Shortcut Property Command Line: V:\VANTAGE\VANTAGE.VTG
* Modified Shortcut Property Command Line: V:\VANTAGE\VANTAGE.EXE
V:\VANTAGE\VANTAGE.VTG

The icons keep changing for me when I installed 5.1 the first time. I don't
know why. As long as they point to the right place, it's OK. I've seen the
Old Blue "V" icons like you see in the Vantage folder, I've seen the
Red/Wt/Blue "Emfg" icons, and I've seen the newer Orange "V". Why they
change at times I don't know.

If I were you, I would copy a backup over and restore it. I tried doing a
ProCopy from one server to another and it got weird fast. I ended up doing
the backup/restore anyway. If you need tips on the restore, let me know.

You're a time saver..... thank you once again.
Should I be worried that there are old 4.0 icons showing on the
desktop, instead of the brand new ones for eMFG? I have no clue how
they got there. This workstation is brand new and has never had
Vantage installed on it. I edit/viewed the icons, but all is
pointing to the new DB's and proggie locations????
Last question; the install guide tells me to copy the db and then
place it in the new epic51 directory. However, I am moving it across
the network... I seem to remember that if you go over TCP/IP with a
Progress DB copy you have to use an additional progress command line
utility. Would I be really pressing my luck copying the fresh 5.0
backup and restoring it in the 5.1 server?

TIA,

Paul

All who might be out there at this time of night....

I am trying to install my first 5.1 client for the upgrade to 5.0,
and I am running into a pesky little snag:

When installing the first 5.1 client after installing the server, the
client set up DEMANDS a Plant Floor User and Password.

-I don't want that on this first station-

I just want to run my schema change and first logon as manager on it.
Finally it also wants the Labor Collector Gateway Link (which I don't
have).

Has anyone encountered this before?

TIA,

Paul
Paul,
It's a glitch in the Install program. Just enter: "zzzz" and "zzzz" and go on. You'll also be asked for the Gateway path, which you can leave as is and go on. Won't hurt anything.

I'm not too worried about the icons, I just find it really odd.
Just copied the DB and I am ready to prorest it into it's new home.
I backed up every step along the way, so I should be ok if things
turn sour.

Happy Wrapping Troy!!! Thanks for the assistance....

By the way, has anyone seen the error box:
The selected file is not a Microsoft Management Console document?
upon opening the NEW progress exploder tool?

Paul

On the selected file is not a MMC document issue:

Gotta love the good old ERANET:
http://eranet.epicor.com/ansbook/vantage/public/1/17/170/1708mps.htm

OK, I am going to stop rambling now.

Paul
Paul,
Interesting article. Sounds like you've got to watch it if you have a NT 4.0 server and are installing a client on Win2000. Did this fix your problem?
